Short Term Disability

Open Enrollment for the BLET Short-Term Disability Enhanced-Plan, underwritten by Sun Life, has begun! This option gives participants an additional $102 of weekly benefit on top of the $300 Base-Plan benefit for a total weekly benefit of $402 ($1,742 per month).

Enhanced-Plan Coverage Highlights:

  • Starts paying on day 22 from the date of disability and pays for up to 52 weeks.
  • 24-hour on and off-the-job coverage.
  • Monthly premium is $2000
  • If your disability results in a FELA related settlement/judgement, you will not have to pay back any benefits received under this plan.

IMPORTANT: to be eligible for the Base-Plan and have the premiums paid for by the railroad, a member must have at least seven starts in the prior month, with at least one of those starts as an engineer.

We always encourage members to contact Cornerstone at 224-848-4941 to discuss their options with a benefit specialist. Open Enrollment ends June 30, 2021 and coverage will take effect on July 1, 2021.
