Short Term Disability
Updated On: May 19, 2021

Open Enrollment for the BLET Short-Term Disability Enhanced-Plan, underwritten by Sun Life, has begun! This option gives participants an additional $102 of weekly benefit on top of the $300 Base-Plan benefit for a total weekly benefit of $402 ($1,742 per month).

Enhanced-Plan Coverage Highlights:

  • Starts paying on day 22 from the date of disability and pays for up to 52 weeks.
  • 24-hour on and off-the-job coverage.
  • Monthly premium is $2000.
  • If your disability results in a FELA related settlement/judgement, you will not have to pay back any benefits received under this plan.

IMPORTANT: to be eligible for the Base-Plan and have the premiums paid for by the railroad, a member must have at least seven starts in the prior month, with at least one of those starts as an engineer.

Additional eligibility highlights:

All members have been mailed a post card announcing the open enrollment.  They can enroll online by visiting https://enroll.unionhub.com/bletstd or by phone at 224.848.4941

We always encourage members to contact Cornerstone at 224-848-4941 to discuss their options with a benefit specialist. Open Enrollment ends June 30, 2021 and coverage will take effect on July 1, 2021.

We would appreciate you forwarding this to your members to help spread the word. If you or any of your members have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

As always, we appreciate all your support!
