We are pleased to inform you that Open Enrollment has begun for the BLET Group Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability and Life Insurance plan underwritten by Prudential. This enrollment is available to both Actively Working BLET Members (only) working as engineers and conductors who are not currently participating in any of the coverages or who are new to the BLET and this is their first opportunity to enroll. This Open Enrollment will go through September 20, 2024, and any elections eligible BLET members choose will become effective on October 1, 2024.
BLET Members who are not currently enrolled, or who are new to the BLET, will have the following options available to them (all options are guaranteed approved with no medical questions during open enrollment):
Short-Term Disability (24/7 coverage)
- Weekly benefit options paid tax-free to Members for up to 1 year.
- Benefits can be stacked with other benefits, such as RRB sickness benefits, to a maximum of 80% of weekly earnings.
Long-Term Disability (24/7 coverage)
- Tax-free benefits that start paying after 1 year (when Short-Term Disability ends).
- Members can protect their income for either 2 years or 5 years.
- These benefits can help fill the gaps between when a Member files for occupational disability and when RRB approves and starts paying Long-Term benefits to the Member.
Life Insurance (24/7 coverage)
- Members can enroll in up to $200,000 in coverage
- Includes an equal amount of Accidental Death and Dismemberment.
- Coverage is guaranteed approved – no medical questions asked!
- Coverage available for spouse and children, when Member Life is elected
We have provided a poster that can be printed/posted in terminals and crew rooms.
